4. Gain Stabilization and Source Check

Note: Prior to measuring samples the software requires that a gain stabilization and source

check be performed. It is possible to bypass or shorten these requirements by using the

manual gain stabilization function instead of the automatic gain stabilization, although

bypassing the automatic gain stabilization is not recommended (discussed later in the

section Bypassing Startup Requirements). For this quick start guide only the automatic

functions are discussed.

It is assumed that the K-40 Marinelli standard and detector are set up as described above in

step 2. Since the same source is used for both gain stabilization and source checking it is

possible

a. From the Util menu, select Auto Gain Stb + Src

Check… A message pops up asking you to confirm that

the K-40 source is on the detector. Tap OK to continue.
